The Racine County K9 Unit consists of four K9 teams. The K9's are dual purpose dogs trained in patrol tactics such as tracking and searching for missing people or offenders, offender apprehension, handler protection and evidence search/recovery. The second purpose they are trained in is narcotic detection.

These dog are highly trained and are very hard working dogs. Their handlers and them put in many hours or training and work to perfect their skills and to keep them at the highest level they can achieve to keep the citizens and visitors of Racine County safe. 

These dogs do not hesitate to serve and protect when called upon, no matter the danger they may face.

All four K9 teams are assigned to the Patrol division of the Sheriff's Office but are called upon to assist with other divisions of the office regularly like the Metro Drug unit and the Racine County Jail. These K9 teams have also responded to numerous calls out side our county when asked to assist with situations. All four of our K9 live with their handlers and their families. The four K9 teams are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week if needed.

The resource of having a K9 teams in the Patrol division gives us a more efficient way to locate narcotics, fleeing or hiding offenders, the recovery of evidence, and an invaluable increase in Officer safety. Simply put, the K9 officers can do things our human deputies can not and for that they are invaluable to our agency and the communities we serve.

These K9 teams also are great in the community and can be seen at numerous community events promoting safety and community awareness on the police K9 abilities. Our K9 unit costs are all covered by community donations and funds raised by fundraisers put on during the year.
