Racine County Sales and Use Tax Information Hub

Welcome to the Racine County Sales and Use Tax Information Hub.

Racine County funds essential and state-mandated services, just like other Wisconsin counties. These services, including public safety, health, and infrastructure, are often required by state law but not fully funded. Racine County faces budget challenges due to historic rising costs and stagnant state revenues, and, until recently, was one of only three counties in Wisconsin to have not adopted a sales tax. Ordinance No. 2024-60-S was approved and adopted by the Racine County Board of Supervisors on October 24, 2024. Effective April 1, 2025, the 0.5% county sales tax is expected to generate $20-$25 million annually, with a significant portion of that revenue coming from out-of-county visitors, reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
