 Our Commitment

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is committed to transparency and will update the public on the health and well-being of those who live and work in our facilities.  The Sheriff’s Office will update the Racine County Jail COVID-19 Dashboard daily, Monday through Friday.

 Our Response

With the third largest jail population in the State of Wisconsin, Sheriff Christopher Schmaling and his staff introduced a robust plan of safety precautions in early March intended to keep first responders, frontline staff, inmates, and the community safe from the spread of COVID-19. Our staff diligently adheres to this safety plan.

 Our Plan

  • Reduce population by 250 inmates

  • Reconfigure closed floors, allowing for 50 quarantine beds in a negative pressure area

  • 14-day, 2-tier quarantine of all new inmates

  • Mandate temperature check and face mask for ANYONE entering the facility

  • Partner with the courts and District Attorney's Office to secure bond

  • Continue operation of inmate mask sewing project to produce masks for use within the facility

  • Sanitize the facility perimeter and common areas five times per day, which includes use of a Skytron 1140 UV Sanitation Robot for room disinfection
