Animal Waste Management

  • Chapter 20, Article XIII Animal Waste Management
  • Animal waste storage structures not meeting current technical design and construction standards may cause pollution of surface water and groundwater.
  • This may cause harm to the health of county residents, livestock, aquatic life, animals, plants or other detrimental impacts to the environment.
  • This ordinance allows staff to provide effective, practical, and environmentally safe methods of storing, spreading, and managing waste.

Non-Metallic Mining Reclamation

  • Chapter 12.5 Non-Metallic Mining Reclamation
  • Staff conducts:
    • Reclamation Plan Reviews
    • On-site Mine Reclamation Inspections
    • Site plan related analysis in reference to non-metallic mining compliance
  • Staff works closely with private sector geologists, environmental specialists, and reclamation managers to ensure compliance.
  • Staff reviews include:
    • Analysis of setbacks
    • Slopes
    • Topsoil Replacement
    • Plantings
    • Erosion Control 
    • Other site specific concerns
  • Once non-metallic mine is fully reclaimed the site becomes a valid asset for agriculture, wildlife habitat or residential / commercial / industrial development.
    • Without proper reclamation, the scarred land could be left in an undesirable state of overburden stockpiles, dangerous vertical slopes, unwanted substances, and potentially pollute surface or groundwater.

Shoreland Zoning

  • Chapter 20 Shoreland Zoning
  • Shoreland is defined as the area with the following distances from the ordinary high-water mark of navigable waters:
    • 1000' from a lake, pond or flowage
    • 300' from a river or stream or to the landward side of the floodplain, whichever distance is greater

    • Slope Stabilization
    • Re-vegetation
    • Other site specific impacts of the proposed projects
